Beverly Hills billionaires give UC Davis $50 million to build agricultural research hub campus

Beverly Hills billionaires are giving $50 million to build a new agricultural research hub campus at UC Davis.

Former UCLA President John T. McRaven, known for his controversial comments about race, has joined a $50 million gift to UC Davis to build a new agricultural research hub.

UC President Janet Napolitano has authorized UC Davis Chancellor Robert M. Birgeneau to provide $50 million to fund the building the Agricultural Engineering and Center for Agricultural Technology in partnership with the UC and UC Davis systems, according to California Public Records Act documents filed with the Secretary of State’s office on Thursday.

The University of California was the first state university to give out money to a university in the public interest.

Other states, including Minnesota, Louisiana and Georgia, have also established similar research centers, according to the University of California system.

McRaven and his wife, Anne, are giving the money for the construction of a new research hub for UC Davis’s Agricultural Engineering and Center for Agricultural Technology.
