A single large truck overturned onto a car on Interstate 405 in Orange County, and an 18-year-old man inside was dead when paramedics responded to the scene, authorities said. The death is under investigation. Orange County Fire Authority

More than a week since it flipped over, a large semi loaded with propane tanks rolled onto a crowded parking level of the 405 Freeway, pinning a car underneath and killing a teenage boy, authorities said.

Orange County Fire Authority Captain Tom Sisney said paramedics who arrived on the scene did not find Eric Estrada, 18, inside his car parked on the southbound side immediately after the truck crashed Friday. Firefighters could not revive Estrada, and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

‘The entire freeway was very busy,’ SISNEY said.

By late Saturday morning the freeway was still shut down for both directions because of a heavy fog. Traffic was backed up for miles; Orange County police posted a tweet that said the 405 was closed because of an accident.

‘It’s tough to think in a fog,’ passenger Brian Ponce said. ‘It was an accident on the freeway.’

Authorities said the truck driver, a 52-year-old man from Orange County, was wearing a flak vest and a safety harness along with a crash helmet. The truck was not damaged, and the driver was unhurt. Police did not mention any injuries sustained by anyone on the freeway.
