Iga Swiatek reaches first US Open final, will face fifth seed Ons Jabeur
Iga Swiatek won her first round match 6-1, 3-0 in straight sets to reach the first Grand Slam singles final of her career.
Swiatek was 6-3 in her first two matches in Toronto before falling to Sloane Stephens, a 2-6, 7-6 (0), 6-2, in the third. She will next face fifth seed and top seed Ons Jabeur, who beat world No. 1 and world No. 2 Simona Halep 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 in a third-round match.
Swiatek has won six top-level singles tournaments in 2018, all on the WTA Tour. She missed a final at the Australian Open in January after sustaining a wrist injury against Coco Vandeweghe.
She reached the round of 64 at the US Open for the first time at the Grand Slam in 2015.

Swiatek will next play fifth seed Ons Jabeur, who has won 22 of her past 24 matches. Jabeur, who won the Rogers Cup last year, will play last year’s runner-up and top seed Elina Svitolina.
