Iga Swiatek says her first Grand Slam final is a dream come true

Iga Swiatek reaches first US Open final, will face fifth seed Ons Jabeur

It must be a huge relief for Iga Swiatek to have reached such a high point in her career, after being in the middle of a long period of injury problems.

Swiatek needed surgery to repair her right foot (the same foot that had previously failed), following a serious injury sustained during a bad fall at the 2009 U.S. Open. She had also had problems with her right ankle.

But now, she is back and ready to play. She says now that her first Grand Slam final is a dream come true.

Swiatek will face unseeded Ons Jabeur for the first time in her career – something she will need to adjust to for the first time in her career.

“That’s one of my biggest dreams come true. As I said, it’s like the first time I have played against someone I have never played before,” Swiatek said.

“I’m playing with a strong team, I was with a good group. My goal is to win.”

Ons Jabeur, who came to the United States when he was in his late 20s, had some of the same issues Swiatek had with her ankle. He also had been away when Swiatek had her long recovery process start.

“As I said, on Saturday I didn’t play a round,” Jabeur, who is ranked No. 16 in the world, said.

Like Swiatek, Jabeur had to adjust to the new situation after a long recovery process.

“It’s actually the first time – I won’t say the first time – since I’ve been in the US Open,” Jabeur said.

The American fans love Jabeur, who said they are his biggest fans.

“I’m very happy. I’ve been waiting so long for my first Grand Slam final. So, to go, let me also congratulate everybody on the first Grand Slam final here and thank you. That’s my goal, so I’m very happy.”

Jabeur played a lot of tennis while injured, including several Grand Slam events including the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.
