Federer is hoping to play in the US Open and the Mutua Madrid Open

See Roger Federer share tears and laughter with CNN after the news of his victory at the US Open after he was knocked out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage.

The 24-year-old said: “After losing in the QF, it is a difficult situation for me. It’s a moment, because I will have the opportunity to play again later, and hopefully I will have a good result when I play there.

“I wanted to play in a major and now I’m in a big position, I’m happy, I’m very excited, and my family is also very excited.”

The US Open is the fourth Grand Slam of Federer’s career (including Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open) which ended the seven year wait for his first major title.

He will also play in the Shanghai Masters and the Australian Open, both which he also won in 2014.

Federer also said that he is hoping to play his next match against his French Open runner-up Gael Monfils, currently ranked at number five, after the Canadian was knocked out of the tournament, citing that he would like to have at least one more chance to beat him.

“It’s good to be able to have one more match next,” said Federer. “I played Gael many times in Australia. It would be nice to beat another great champion. Gael is good. So it would be nice.”

The Swiss said that he is also hoping to play in his second China Open event, the Mutua Madrid Open.

“I hope, yes, I can play next week,” said Federer. “I’m really feeling good. I want to play some good matches.”

Federer has won 22 titles, including seven titles at the Tour Championship which is held every September and September-July, which is the French Open.

The Swiss superstar believes he can continue to improve his ranking on the court and that he is a contender to win the next Australian Open title, which will be his 10th in the men’s game.
